The Government has asked us to continue to self isolate.
Each person in your household is allowed to walk your dog for 30 minutes. You need to stay 2 metres away from other people and so if your dog does not have a good recall we advise that they are not let off the lead. People are being told to only make essential journeys so please do not drive to your usual dog walking location but instead walk your dog locally.
Some people won’t be able to take their dog beyond their house or garden for exercise. However, there are lots of ways to keep your dog happy and healthy without going for walks, by replacing exercise with other activities such as playing with them or teaching them a new trick. Or why not try these brain games with your dog to keep them engaged.
Remember your dog will still need to go outside to use the toilet so make sure they get regular access to the garden, or just outside your house, to go to the toilet.
Even though there is no evidence that coronavirus can be carried by pets, however it is better to always adopt good hygiene practices, which includes washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after touching your dog or cat, or their food, toys or bedding.
Speak to your vet or doctor if you need additional advice, or refer to Public Health England’s advice pages for the most up to date information.
If you have been diagnosed with coronavirus then you should inform your local health protection team that you own a dog. If at all possible, arrange for another person to care for your dog, until you’re able to return to normal. Some people will be able to have their dog cared for by a friend or family member to care for them in their own home until you have recovered and no longer need to self-isolate. We currently do not have any information on how to access volunteers who are able to take dogs for walks for people unable to go out themselves.
If your pet shows signs of ill-health please call your vet to discuss your animals’ condition. Do not visit the surgery in person.

If the next three weeks go well and the Government relaxes some of the self isolation measures we will be looking at creating a set of ‘Covid 19’ safety measures that enables people to drop off and pick up their dogs. Once safety measures are in place the kennels will be reopened.
